On 17 June, PROCLADE Internazionale – ETS held an online meeting with implementers and local partners from Asia to discuss the main challenges facing development projects in the region, as well as possible ways to improve them.

The meeting provided an opportunity to share experiences from very diverse contexts, marked by different social, cultural, geographical, and economic realities. During the session, participants addressed topics such as education, community participation, rural development, support for vulnerable communities, the role of young people and women, project sustainability, and the need to strengthen networking.

One of the key points highlighted was the importance of promoting projects that do not only respond to immediate needs, but also generate long-term transformation processes. In this regard, participants emphasized the need to listen more closely to local communities, encourage their active participation, and design sustainable initiatives that are well accompanied and impact-oriented.

Participants also identified several common challenges in the region, including inequality in access to education, environmental difficulties, situations of violence, migration, gender inequality, and the need to improve coordination among the different actors involved in the projects.

The importance of having well-prepared teams was also stressed, together with the need to improve documentation and project monitoring, strengthen communication about the work being carried out, and promote new forms of local sustainability.

The meeting was an opportunity to recognize the richness and diversity of the work being developed in Asia, and to continue moving towards projects that are more participatory, sustainable, and close to the reality of local communities.

PROCLADE Internazionale – ETS is especially grateful to Eugenius Madoni, from Indonesia; Siby Eravimangalam, from India; Louis Franklin, from India; Jojo Ancheril, from Taiwan; Janardhan Munnelli, from India; Tuby G.
