Purchase of books and school supplies for children and young people in Ankarana, Madagascar (X017/2024)

< Back to Project

Context and reality

The project will be implemented in the village of Ankarana, in the Farafangana District, in south-eastern Madagascar, one of the poorest and most vulnerable areas of the country.

The local population lives in conditions of significant social and economic fragility. Many families have very limited resources and face serious difficulties in providing their children with the school supplies they need to attend classes regularly. Distance from urban centres, lack of infrastructure, and economic insecurity make access to books, notebooks, and basic educational materials even more difficult.

In this context, many children and young people risk experiencing school in a discontinuous way, with fewer learning opportunities and greater exposure to school dropout.

Project description

The project aims to support the educational journey of children and young people in Ankarana through the purchase and distribution of books, notebooks, and basic school supplies.

In many families in the area, economic hardship makes it difficult to cover even the most basic school-related expenses. As a result, many students do not have the necessary tools to follow lessons, complete homework, read, write, and participate fully in educational activities.

Through this project, essential school materials will be purchased, such as books, notebooks, pens, pencils, and other tools needed for daily learning. The materials will be distributed to the most vulnerable students in the village of Ankarana and nearby communities, giving priority to those living in situations of greater economic difficulty.

The project is not limited to providing material support. It also seeks to strengthen the importance of education as a concrete opportunity for personal growth, social inclusion, and the improvement of living conditions. Having access to adequate books and school supplies allows students to attend school with greater dignity, motivation, and continuity.

In this way, the initiative contributes to reducing the economic barriers that hinder access to education and supports families in their efforts to offer their children better opportunities for the future.

How the project responds to reality

The project responds directly to the educational difficulties faced by many families in Ankarana, who are often unable to afford the school materials required for their children’s education.

By distributing books and educational materials, students will be better able to follow lessons, carry out school activities more consistently, and strengthen their learning process.

Access to basic educational tools is a concrete way to reduce inequalities, prevent school dropout, and promote greater participation of children and young people in education.
